I teach photography in a friendly non technical way. There will be some classroom instruction which will be followed up by shooting real life situations, like landscapes, street images, portraiture, wildlife, still life, low light etc.

Course 1: A Quick Start To Photography

Experience needed: none, suitable for all levels
Equipment required: any camera
Length of course: 3 hours

This course will cover a basic introduction into understanding exposure, the proper technique for shooting sharp images, different types of cameras their advantages and limitations, cropped sensors verses full frame and my top ten tips for becoming a better photographer.

Course 2

Please note the maximum number of places on this course is six.

Experience needed: Course #1 or equivalent
Equipment needed: a Digital Single Lens Reflect (DSLR) or a Compact System Camera (CSC) or a Bridge Camera
Length of course: 3 hours (dates and times to be announced)

In general the training will involve a combination of classroom theory and practical hands on tuition. I will review your images and apply a constructive appraisal of them.

Time will be allowed for questions and answers so that I can make sure you are getting what you want and need from the course.

  • Understanding light and exposure.
  • Colour temperature explained.
  • The exposure triangle
  • The histogram
  • Highlight warnings
  • Exposure compensation controls
  • The dynamic range of cameras verses our eyes
  • Putting what you have learned to work by shooting some images and then studying the results.

Note that these courses are not designed to teach particular makes of camera, but on how to capture better images in a variety of different situations. Therefore it may be a good idea to bring along your camera’s user manual as I can not be knowledgeable about all makes of cameras.
